Jonkers Zombie Trail Run

Our trail grading: ORANGE 3B
Distance: 14km
Extremeness: Darkness, gloominess, a Wim-off-road-special & maybe Zombies
Location: Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Joggers: Deryck Nel, Cobus Potgieter, Wim Morris & me

This morning we were up early and since we had some time restrictions, we hit the first hill at some pace. It was still dark when we started and when the darkness decided to slowly subside we were surrounded by eerie fog. The burned out trees added to the effect and I was waiting for the first Zombies to appear. For nerdy readers, our surroundings looked like a scene from the awesome black & white platform game Limbo. Our route took us up to where our JMC Alt route of two weeks ago connects to the contour jeep tracks below the Pieke (aka The Twins). We climbed and climbed looking for a (probably non-existing) Wim-single-track. When we ran out of time we turned around and then scrambled through a pine forest - according to Wim there was a route? I suppose there might have been a road a few 100 years ago! We then decided to take the awesome Canary MTB trails down to the gate. Even with Wim cutting sneaky corners we had to retire from the single track a bit earlier, ensuring that we finished timely.
