My Kit

The shoes of extreme jogging...

Your trail shoe is one of the most important elements of your kit... especially if you are planning a few extreme jogs. My feet are UK size 14 (i.e. US size 15) and fairly wide, so I generally struggle to get nice shoes.  Below is my trail shoes from 2011-2015.

I currently run with an awesome ASICS trail shoe as default and then a minimalistic New Balance shoes for shorter, flatter and speedier runs. Here is the line-up.

ASICS Fuji-Trabuco 3 - I've done only two runs with these shoe but I already love them. They fit my feet like a glove and their grip is awesome on rocky terrain - tested in Calvinia. I will have to see how they do in the wet Jonkershoek in winter.

New Balance Minimus 10v2 - I really like the feel of these minimalistic shoes - especially on non technical MTB trails or on the beach. I've tried them on more technical trails, but the rocks do hurt!

ASICS Fuji-Trabuco 2 - I put these shoes through quite a lot. I ran the full Summer Trial Series in 2015 in them as well as both the Elgin & Silvermine XLs. They are really comfortable and provide awesome stability. I did have to apply some glue to the soles after one or two runs.

New Balance 810v2 - I did not run very long with these shoes. I ordered them online and they ended up being a bit narrow for my feet. Their grip was fairly good in dry conditions, but they were a bit slippery on wet rocks.

Adidas Durano 3 TR - I had two pairs of these shoes just because they were so comfortable. I ran with them in basically any weather condition imaginable and they stood the test of time. They were my first ever trail shoes and I still love them to this day. ;)
